Twelve young gymnasts aged 9 to 13 from Neath-Afan Gymnastics Club and their coaches have been selected to represent West Wales Gymnastics Academy at the Magical Classic Competition in Florida in February 2017.

The Club, the girls and their parents have been fundraising and seeking sponsorship to help fund this amazing opportunity. One local company, Homestyle Cymru, based in Ammanford has very generously sponsored the team £500! Managing Director, Mr Jon Dennis, pictured with the girls, said “Having heard of the girls cause I thought it was only fair to contribute to their trip to Florida and having watched them in training I was gobsmacked at their skills at such a young age.  It is training schools like this that will undoubtedly continue to get us medals in future Olympics and Commonwealth games etc.”

Amongst many other fundraising activities, the team are undertaking an impressive sponsored ‘Flick to Florida’ – one flick for every one of the 4187 miles over a six week period.

They are also bag packing, car washing, doing car boot sales, craft fairs and serving hundreds of bacon rolls and cakes in the coffee shop of the Cambrian Centre for Activity and at Neath-Afan Gym Centre.

Managing director and senior coach Nicola Lewis says “this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for these girls to compete in the USA. They train over 20 hours every week, dedicating their young lives to their beloved sport of gymnastics. Sponsors like Homestyle Cymru are making this dream a reality for them and we are very grateful.”
